What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-based therapy that helps people access, process, and release deep emotional pain, trauma, and other challenging experiences that are often stored beneath conscious awareness. Developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting works on the principle that where you look affects how you feel — and that specific eye positions, or "brainspots," can unlock stored trauma held in the body and nervous system.
How does it work?
During a Brainspotting session, your therapist will guide you to identify a brainspot — an eye position that correlates with an area of emotional activation in the body. By holding that gaze position and staying present with what arises, the brain is able to locate and process unresolved experiences at a deeper neurological level. Bilateral sound is often used during sessions to further support the brain's natural healing process.
What to expect:
Brainspotting is a gentle yet deeply effective approach. Sessions are highly individualized, and many people notice shifts after just a few appointments. Your therapist will move at a pace that feels safe and supportive, honoring your unique healing journey every step of the way.
